Service Brief

Water Softener
Install & Service

North Texas water is hard — 8 to 15 grains per gallon depending on the city. That kills water heaters, ruins fixtures, and dries your skin. S.W.A.T. Plumbing installs the right-sized softener for your home and your hardness, with a code-compliant bypass and brine setup.

When You Need This

The longer you wait,
the worse it gets.

Hardness — calcium and magnesium dissolved in your water — silently destroys plumbing, appliances, and finishes. A water heater in untreated North Texas water loses 30–50% of its expected lifespan. Fixtures stain, glassware spots, soap doesn't lather, and skin and hair fight the minerals every shower. S.W.A.T. Plumbing tests your hardness, sizes the softener correctly (under-sized softeners cycle constantly and burn salt; over-sized ones waste capacity), and installs with a serviceable bypass.

Warning Signs

  • Water spots on glassware, dishes, and shower doors
  • Crusty white buildup on faucets and shower heads
  • Soap doesn't lather — and uses more than it should
  • Dry skin, brittle hair, or eczema flare-ups after showers
  • Stiff laundry that feels rough after washing
  • Water heater popping, rumbling, or short-lived
  • Dishwasher rinse aid running out too fast
  • Existing softener that's not regenerating or out of salt

Mission Operations

How we execute
from call to close.

  1. 01.

    Test

    Hardness in Grains Per Gallon.

We test your specific water — your address, your tap, the actual hardness in grains per gallon. Aledo, Fort Worth, Weatherford, and surrounding communities all vary. Wells vary more. The test result drives sizing; we don't pull numbers from a regional average.

  2. 02.

    Size

    Match Capacity to Household.

Softener grain capacity is matched to your hardness × household water use × regeneration frequency. We size for one regen every 5–7 days under normal use — that's the efficient sweet spot. Under-sized units regenerate too often and waste salt; over-sized units regenerate too rarely and the resin bed loses efficiency.

  3. 03.

    Install

    Bypass, Brine, Drain.

Installed at the main supply with a 3-valve bypass for future service, brine tank positioned accessibly for salt loading, drain line routed to a code-compliant location with an air gap. We typically route the kitchen cold line off the softener to keep drinking water lower in sodium.

  4. 04.

    Commission + Train

    Programmed, Tested, Walkthrough.

Regeneration schedule programmed (demand-initiated for efficiency where the head supports it, time-clock as backup), softener cycled and tested against post-install hardness, salt loaded. You get a walkthrough on operation, salt type, regen indicators, and basic troubleshooting.

  • My A/C was leaking because of a backup in the main drain pipe. The tech Tyler was beyond communicative, patient, and tenacious to fix this. He stayed until almost 6p troubleshooting and sticking with the plan of action that freed the issue. Great guy and great service. As a bonus, I requested the soonest available service and when there was a cancellation that pulled my appointment forward by one day. One earlier day with A/C in Mya in Texas. Win! I was provided them through my home warranty service. I will definitely request them again. Tyler was the man!

  • Over the weekend, I needed to call a plumber when the expansion tank on my water heater began leaking. I was unsure what might happen if the situation worsened, so I contacted my home warranty service to request assistance. I had previously informed them that if I ever needed plumbing services again, I preferred to work exclusively with S.W.A.T. Plumbing. On Monday morning, I received a call from Christi at S.W.A.T. Plumbing. She explained that although the plumber was finishing another job, she could have someone out later that afternoon. She told me that Scott H. would be handling the call and would contact me when he was on his way. About five minutes after our call ended, Christi called back to let me know that I would be Scott's next service stop. I really appreciated that level of communication. Less than forty five minutes later, Scott arrived at my home. Scott was professional from the moment he arrived. After a brief greeting, he immediately went to work. He confirmed my suspicion that the expansion tank was the problem, returned to his truck for tools and a replacement tank, and had the new tank installed within about twenty minutes. The repair was completed quickly, smoothly, and—most importantly—professionally. This was not my first experience with S.W.A.T. Plumbing, and it certainly will not be my last should the need arise again. This team truly knows how to take care of their customers. Thank you for inviting me to participate in this survey. I appreciate the opportunity to share my feedback. If you have any follow up questions or need additional information, please feel free to contact me.
